Jose Manuel Esquivel Sr., beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, was born November 21, 1929, in Jerez Zacatecas, Mexico. He passed on to eternal life April 8, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri.
Jose was born to hardworking farmers and loving parents, Jesus Esquivel and Maria Sánchez-Esquivel. As a courageous young man, he moved to the United States and worked for the Sunkist Lemon Packaging plant in Santa Paula, California. Jose became a highly valued employee and was promoted to the position of Company Carpenter. He continued his rising career and advanced to working on vessels at Newport Marina. Jose used his vast knowledge and talents to complete his long career as a residential and commercial Carpenter working throughout Southern California. Most importantly, he passed down his lifelong work ethic, wisdom, and skills of the construction trade to his children.
As a young man at the Limoneira (Sunkist lemon plant) Jose met and married, his loving wife Inocencia. Together they created a beautiful family of seven children. In being so loved and blessed, the Magnificent Seven created 15 amazing and talented grandchildren, his (Nietos). Those grandchildren lovingly introduced 14 beautiful great grandkids (Los bisnietos). To add to Jose’s joy, three more are on the way!
On his last great adventure, Jose moved to Marshfield, MO, in 2016. He was able to enjoy the contrast of the desert of Southern California to the beauty of the Ozarks. He truly loved and enjoyed this part of our country, how green it is and the endless fields and forests of trees. Jose, Pops as we called him, loved springtime here. It was his favorite season. Joyfully, he put together a work/crafting shop in the garage of his daughter’s house so he could continue to work with wood and create many treasures for his family and friends. Inherited from his parents, his pride and joy, no matter where he lived, was his gardens. He loved to grow corn, peppers and have fruit trees. Always sharing his bounty is his legacy.
Jose is survived by his wife, Inocencia Esquivel, Nuevo, CA. His children: Ruben & Sheila Esquivel, Fontana, CA, Peter & Sue Esquivel, Marshfield, MO, Mary Gilbert, Marshfield, MO, Esther & Joe VanRoy, Hemet, CA, Jose Manuel Jr. & Leticia Esquivel, Mayer, AZ, Jesse Esquivel, Nuevo, CA, Eddie Esquivel, Nuevo, CA. His grandchildren: Matthew & Brittany Esquivel, Daniel & Alex Esquivel, Bryan Esquivel & Mallory Valenciano, Alicia & Justin Ulley, Kelli & Jason Owens, Kayla & Damiun Walker, Makoto & Zach Adams, Melissa Gilbert & EJ Manley, Peter & Vanessa Gilbert, Michelle Gilbert & Garrett Cardwell, Megan Gilbert & Dillon Harms, Steven VanRoy, Albert Terrazas & Alva Franco, Jose Manuel III & Valerie Esquivel, Mikey & Vanessa Esquivel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Esquivel and Maria Esquivel. His sister: Amelia Corrillo. His son-in-law, John Gilbert.
Services will be held at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., 1131 State Highway A, Marshfield, MO. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024. Celebration and interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024. Interment will be in Marshfield Cemetery.
